The Festival

Ever since Prometheus endowed humanity with the gift of fire, By the Light of a Match has been the short play festival of legend. Ancient texts praise the festival for the opportunities and fellowship it provides to a wide range of artists as well as the power it bestows upon the audience.
For generations, the details of this festival have remained shrouded in mystery, its secrets passed on to only the most select group of individuals. Now we present them to you:
Every festival, several playwrights channel the divine power of the muses to create plays based on the festival's theme. The fates then unite these playwrights with directors and actors to bring the stories to life in a cohesive evening of theatre under the guidance of a mythical festival director. It's been said that anything from musical numbers to Dionysian orgies can occur.
The audience plays a vital role in the evening's revelries by nominating the director, playwright, actor and actress they deem to be worthiest. After many moons, the victors in each category will be brought together to create a new play for the next By the Light of a Match festival. The winning playwright will also ascend to the coveted head playwright position and embark on an epic quest to discover a new theme for the next festival.
All citizens are welcome to the festivities regardless of class and wealth. Tickets are "Pay what you will" so that we may receive opinions from the most esteemed of nobles to the lowliest of peasants.
